Statement of Faith, Covenant, Our Values
STATEMENT OF FAITH
The members of the Church affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God, and as the only basis for our beliefs.
We place our faith entirely in the Lord Jesus Christ for our eternal salvation, believe wholly in the teachings of the Scriptures, and in those great, distinctive principles for which Baptists have always stood, namely:
- One God, eternally glorious and holy, the Trinity of the Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; one in essence but distinct in personality.
- The pre-eminence of Jesus Christ as our Savior, Lord and Master.
- The supreme authority of the Bible and its absolute sufficiency as our only rule of faith and practice.
- The right of personal interpretation and the competency of the individual soul in direct access to God with Christ only as mediator.
- By the celebration of the ordinances, we declare our identification with Jesus as Lord: Believer's baptism by immersion in obedience to the command of Christ; the Lord's Supper in communion and remembrance of Christ's atoning death and in anticipation of His coming again.
- A regenerate Church membership born of the Spirit.
- The complete independence of the local church, its association and fellowship with other churches, and its freedom to function without governmental control or detraction.
- To provide and support a biblical form of government in which members participate in, and are guaranteed a voice in, the democratic process.
- The spiritual unity of all believers.
- A commitment to a program of evangelism and missions in obedience to the final command of our Lord Jesus Christ.
COVENANT
As a member, I aspire to the following:
Having been led, as I believe, by the Spirit of God to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and, on the profession of my faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, I now, in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into Covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
I engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for advancement of this Church in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines.
To contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministries, the expenses of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.
I also engage to maintain personal devotions, to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of family and friends.
To walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our behavior; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.
I further engage to watch over one another in Christian love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickens and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to secure it without delay.
I moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other Church where we can carry out the spirit of this Covenant and the principles of God's Word.
- Holding to the doctrinal basics of the Christian faith. (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
- Engaging in regular study of the Word that results in proclamation of the Word and transformation by the Word from infancy to maturity. (Romans 12:2)
- Worshiping in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23; Philippians 3:3)
- Embracing prayer, especially as dialoging with God. (Luke 11:1-2, 18:1; 1 Corinthians 14:15; Colossiansn 1:9)
- Being seen as a Body developing healthy relationships. (Ephesians 5; Philippians 2:1-4)
- Calling for and expecting unity of the Body. (Ephesians 4:11-32)
- Becoming and being Servant-Leaders as expected through team effort. (Luke 22:26; Romans 15:31; Colossians 3:24; Hebrews 12:28)
